We won’t let the labour shortages affect us!

The sun is still shining here at Pro-Force, with a higher returnee worker rate than ever before we are set for a bumper season. The teams are working hard all across the UK.

The UK is reporting an average 20% shortage in labour for the agricultural sector. This is being blamed on the lack of EU worker interest due to the uncertainty of Brexit and the devaluation of Sterling depreciating by 13.24% in June 2016.

All British apples are also picked by hand, which means the harvest is highly labour intensive.

The recent ‘breaking the chain’ survey revealed about 47% of businesses said that the EU nationals were considering leaving the UK due to uncertainty surrounding their future, and crops such as broad beans may need to be abandoned next year if the labour situation doesn’t improve.

Check out just some of our apple pictures below, taken just last week in Kent.
