Yesterday, our team attended the National Fruit Show at The Kent Showground in Detling, marking our debut as exhibitors at this prestigious event. This top fruit industry showcase was not just an exhibition for us; it became a vibrant hub for networking, where we had the pleasure of meeting new clients, reconnecting with familiar faces, sharing insights and talking to visitors about how we can support businesses with their labour requirements.
The show featured an impressive array of growers and suppliers from across the industry, along with a fruit competition and prize-giving ceremony. Despite the challenges faced in 2024, the National Fruit Show stood as a testament to the resilience and fortitude of growers, suppliers, and everyone involved in the industry. It was heartening to witness such passion and commitment to British horticulture on full display.
The event kicked off with a thought-provoking introduction from the new NFU President, Tom Bradshaw. During his introduction he emphasised the importance of partnerships and made particular reference to the seasonal worker scheme, advocating for a permanent solution to the scheme for the future. His insights resonated with many attendees, underscoring the pressing need for collaborative efforts in our sector. We also had the opportunity to hear from show President Catherine Paice and Chair Nigel Bardsley.
The event also offered an excellent opportunity to catch up with the team from Defra, strengthening our ongoing collaboration and exchanging insights on the future of fruit production in the UK. We also had the chance to meet with the OnePay team, who provide a fast and supportive solution for our seasonal workers to access their wages.
